Dyslexia “D” is for Discovery

Awareness Art Show
October 28th, 2017

A multi-track Dyslexia Awareness event which includes an art show and auction, interactive art experience, author presentation and a panel discussion focusing on understanding and capitalizing on the special talents of dyslexic people.

Encouraging Words By:


Aidan Colvin, author of "Looking for Heroes, One Boy, One Year, 100 Letters," will share his story about what inspired him to write 100 letters to famous dyslexics and subsequently his book about their responses and what he learned.

Sean Ruttkay, owner of EDA Surf Art and Wilmington's 2017 Azalea Festival Artist, will inspire those that don't even consider themselves artist with a fun and inspirational interactive canvas painting session for kids and adults.

($15 cash fee for supplies)

Donna Gargett, founder of Blank Canvas Awareness Art, inc., will lead a panel discussion with fellow dyslexics and advocates to discuss the dyslexic journey and how we can encourage discovery of hidden talents!

Come network with us and feel supported by your community as we celebrate the passage of North Carolina's first Dyslexia and Dyscalculia law (HB149).

Donna Gargett will be joined by many other local artists to depict what dyslexia is through art. Many different medias will be represented to make for a very interesting and informative art show. We will also have a children’s exhibit to show off their amazing talents.
